NAVY AS

The Hellenic Navy in order to be able to accomplish its mission in the best possible way,
has at its disposal a number of different types of ships. The need for the existence of a variety of ships in the fleet is dictated by today's complexity of the war at sea.

The main types of ships of the Hellenic Navy are the following:

FRIGATES
Frigates Class Meko-200HN
Frigates Class Standard

They are ships armed with heavy and light armoury, as well as with suitable appliances,
so that they can fight with other ship or aircraft, locate and destroy submarine, as well as bombing land targets.

FAST ATTACK CRAFT MISSILE
FACM Class La Combattante III
FACM Class La Combattante IIa

They are ships with small tonnage and high speed. Their armament consists of guided missiles,
quick firing guns, and torpedoes. There are also smaller ships of this type, called "Fast Attack Crafts", that are mainly wooden ships, armed with torpedoes and light armament.

SUBMARINES

Submarines are boats that have the capability to submerge.
Their mission is the attack and destroy hostile surface ships or submarines.

LANDING SHIPS
Landing Ships Jason Class (LST)

Landing Ships, which come in different varieties, are ships that have
the capability to transport troops, tanks, vehicles, and materials,
that landing missions are executed successfully. Tank landing ships, vehicle landing ships and smaller ferries, as well as tankers,
belong in this category of ships. Also the navy possesses Air Cushion Landing Crafts of the "ZUBR" class,
can perform the same missions as the other landing crafts faster.

GUNBOAT SHIPS
Gunboats Class Thetis
Gunboats Class Osprey 55
Gunboats Class Osprey HSY-55
Gunboats Class Asheville

The gunboat ships of the Hellenic Navy are boats of the size of Corvettes
575 tons) armed with guns of 40mm and 20mm, torpedoes (Mk 46 Mod5) as well as rails of mines for mine laying.
They have Sonar detection capabilities as they are equipped with sonar, and can be used in a variety of missions.

MINESWEEPERS/MINE-LAYERS
Minesweepers - Coastal
Mine-Layers Class Castano
Mine-Layers Class Hunt

Mine-layers are boats that lay mines in the sea, creating minefields.
have precisely the opposite mission, that is to say they search for and locate mines laid by hostile ships or planes,
in locations that prevent the movements of our own boats, and then neutralise them

The Hellenic Navy, apart from the aforementioned Fleet warships, has also at its disposal auxiliary and training ships
. Auxiliary, that are small oil and water Tankers, Tractors, Replenishment Ships, ships for transporting Personnel, navigable Cranes.

Finally the Hellenic Navy owns Planes of 353 Maritime Patrol
Aircrafts Squadron, Hellenic Command Hellicopters as well as the Underwater Demolition Command.

United States Navy

332,000 personnel, 280 ships, 3,700 aircraft

The 21st century United States Navy maintains a sizable presence in the world, deploying in such areas as East Asia,
Mediterranean, and the Middle East. Its ability to project force onto the littoral regions of the world, engage in forward areas during peacetime, and rapidly respond to regional crises makes it an active player in American foreign and defense policy.
United States Navy is the largest in the world with a tonnage greater than that of the next 17 largest combined
and has a budget of $127.3 billion for the 2007 fiscal year.
U.S. Navy also possesses the world's largest carrier fleet, with 11 in service and 2 under construction.

The names of commissioned ships of the U.S. Navy start with "USS,"[31] designating "United States Ship
Non-commissioned, civilian-manned vessels of the Navy have names that begin with "USNS," standing for "United States Naval Ship" The names of ships are officially selected by the Secretary of the Navy, often to honor important people or places
Additionally, each ship is given a letter-based hull classification symbol (for example, CVN or DDG) to indicate the vessel's type and a hull number. All ships in the Navy inventory are placed in the Naval Vessel Register, which tracks data such as the current status of a ship, the date of its commissioning, and the date of its decommissioning. Vessels that are removed from the register prior to disposal are said to be stricken from the register. The Navy also maintains a reserve fleet of inactive vessels that are maintained for reactivation in times of need.

The Navy pioneered the use of nuclear reactors aboard naval vessels; today, nuclear energy powers most
.S. aircraft carriers and submarines. In the case of a Nimitz-class carrier, two naval reactors give
ship almost unlimited range and provide enough electrical energy to power a city of 100,000 people.
U.S. Navy previously operated nuclear-powered cruisers and destroyers as well, but all have been decommissioned.

Carriers

Multiple carriers are deployed around the world at any given time to provide military presence, respond quickly to crises,
and participate in joint exercises with allied forces; this has led the Navy to
to their Nimitz-class carriers as "4.5 acres of sovereign and mobile American territory." Former President Bill Clinton summed up the importance of the aircraft carrier by stating that "when word of crisis breaks out in Washington, it's no accident the first question that comes to everyone's lips is: where is the nearest carrier?"

Kitty Hawk class (1 in commission)

Enterprise class (1 in commission)

Nimitz class (9 in commission, 1 under construction)

San Antonio class (2 in commission, 3 under construction, 4 more planned)

Whidbey Island class (8 in commission)

Harpers Ferry class (4 in commission)

Battleships
Iowa Class (all 4 ships are currently memorials but are in reserve and still are property of
US Navy, allowing them to be brought back for service much like during Desert Storm)

Surface vessels
Ticonderoga class missile cruiser (22 in commission)

Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate (30 in commission)

Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer (52 in commission)

Freedom class LCS-1 (littoral combat ships) Frigate (1 in commission undergoing trials)

USS Independence LCS Frigate LCS-2 (under construction)
